UEFA Europa League scores, live updates: Manchester United vs …
HALF: Wolfsburg 0, Shakhtar 0
The Ukranian side had their chances but were unable to come up on the scoresheet. Not that that matters a whole lot as they lead on aggregate coming into this game. Wolfsburg will need to apply more pressure to have any hopes of staying alive in this tournament.
Shakhtar getting closer
34′ The game is really going Shakhtar’s way, even with the team having no incentive to score at the moment. The Ukranian side had back-to-back opportunities — which were started by some incredibly team play — to get onto the board. The first was stopped by an incredible save, while the other was missed. Shakhtar look close to getting one in the back of the net sooner rather than later.
Danger for Wolfsburg
30′ What a disaster that would have been! John Brooks’s back pass to keeper Casteels was hit with quite some ferocity that the keeper needed to chase after the ball to keep it in play. Luckily the pass was wide of the net or it things could have gone much, much worse.
Off the post for Shakhtar
26′ Marlos has a chance at goal and fires an absolute rocket to try and give his team the lead in the second leg. But his shot ricochets right off the post, much to the chagrin of the Ukrainian side. The replay showed that it wasn’t exactly the cleanest of strikes, but perhaps one Marlos should have made anyways.
Chance for Wolfsburg
24′ An absolute miracle for Shakhtar that Wolfsburg didn’t just score. Midfielder Victor sends a beautiful cross into the box right in front of goal, but the ball passes not one, but two, teammates untouched as it just skids past all danger harmlessly.
Opportunity for Shakhtar
19′ What a chance for Shakhtar as an incredible counter play gave Moraes a shot at goal, but the forward seemed to stumble as he tried to poke it on target. He really should have scored with a one-on-one opportunity in front of him.
Save for Wolfsburg
13′ Shakhtar’s Alan Patrick takes a shot from outside of the box at the end of a counter and fires on goal. Wolfsburg’s keeper is forced to make a save which leads to a corner. The corner hits the head of a Wolfsburg player and the attack peters out.
Over the bar
11′ What looked to be the first real chance of the match fell flat after Marcos Antônio sent his shot from outside of the box well over the keeper and the net. Shakhtar had gotten into the box in the first place on a counter.
Goal in Copenhagen
4′ Over in Denmark, Jonas Wind has opened up the scoring between Copenhagen and Istanbul. Copenhagen now knots things up 1-1 on aggregate.
3′ Wolfsburg’s Kauer goes after the ball right as Moraes is going to ground. An unfortunate clash causes a brief stoppage to deal with the Shakhtar player’s hand injury. He’s able to return to play after a couple minutes.
Early Wolfsburg corner
2′ Shakhtar’s Trubin unable to keep his dribble and forces the ball behind his line for an early corner. The ensuing cross lands right back into the keepers hands.
And we’re off!
1′ The referee has blown his whistle signaling the official return of Europa League! Wolfsburg kicks things off.
