Witchetty grubs, whining celebrities and wild critters will be back on our television screens in autumn.

I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here will still be delivering our annual dose of jungle drama this year (sort of), despite the coronavirus pandemic derailing other shows.

About Celebrity
Celebrity is a condition of fame and broad public recognition of an individual or group, or occasionally a character or animal, as a result of attention given them by mass media. A person may attain a celebrity status from having great wealth, their participation in sports or the entertainment industry, their position as a political figure, or even from their connection to another celebrity. ‘Celebrity’ usually implies a favorable public image, as opposed to the neutrals ‘famous’ or ‘notable’, or the negatives ‘infamous’ and ‘notorious’.

ITV confirmed last week that the 20th series will be going ahead, and said it will be on our screens “in autumn.”

It emerged on Friday that it will not be filmed in the usual location in Australia, however – it will be in the remote ruins of a UK castle, the Mirror reports.

The show has aired iconic snippets of television since it was first broadcast in 2002, from Dean Gaffney’s screaming to Gillian McKeith’s fainting during a live trial.

Much-loved duo Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly will host as usual, and announced last week that they will be taking a break from work before returning to television at the end of the month.

There are currently about a dozen celebrities rumoured to be lined up as contestants this year, as reported by OK!, although none have confirmed yet.

The most recent series was won by actress Jacqueline Jossa, with runners-up including radio presenter Roman Kemp and Kardashians star Caitlyn Jenner.

One of the rumoured names this year is Bristol favourite Maya Jama, who stepped down from her Radio 1 show earlier this year to pursue other projects.

This is the list of names in the mix to be camp-mates so far:

AJ Pritchard

The Strictly Come Dancing star is at odds of 1/10 to enter the jungle this year, according to Sky Bet.

The actress, best-known for her roles in Eastenders and New Tricks, has also been tipped for an appearance.

Carole Baskin

One for all you cool cats and kittens – Carole Baskin, of Netflix documentary Tiger King, is rumoured to have been offered a lucrative deal.

A source told The Sun: “Producers have made a formal approach and hope she will do it.”

Could I’m a Celeb be next on the reality television to-do list?

Maya Jama

Bristol’s very own Maya Jama stepped down from her weekend show on Radio 1 earlier this year to focus on other projects, including hosting Save Our Summer with Peter Crouch.

Producers are keen to get the former Cotham School pupil on board, insiders say.

She’s no stranger to I’m A Celebrity, where she met former husband Peter Andre – and there are rumours that the author and former model might be making a return this year.

Last week she broke both of her ankles in an accident on holiday in Turkey, which could jeopardise her ability to take part.

Jessie J

Singer and former The Voice judge Jessie J has said she wants to put her music career above her work in television – but sources believe she’s in the running.

An insider told The Sun Online: “Jessie’s been offered good money but isn’t sure that the show is for her.”

Paul Merson

You’ll usually find sports stars among the I’m A Celebrity cast – and this year Paul Merson is rumoured to be on the list.

The former footballer has spoken openly in recent years about his battle to overcome a devastating alcohol and gambling addiction, and featured in ITV show Harry’s Heroes last year.

Dan Osborne

The former professional boxer is another name hotly tipped to enter the camp this year.

The Grand Tour host, who opened his own Oxfordshire farm shop in February, has previously said he would be up for going on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

He previously told Jonathan Ross: “We all say no now because we’ve got jobs.

“If you’re down the line and somebody said, ‘Here’s a hundred grand to eat some maggots’, count me in!”
