Post Malone and Joe Rogan take mushrooms for four-hour-long podcast

If you’ve got a spare four hours up your sleeve, Post Malone has appeared as the latest guest on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, with the host and his guest taking mushrooms and doing the whole recording while high.

We suppose there is quite a lot to unpack here, yes.

About Malone
Malone is a family name. From the Irish “Mael Eòin”, the name means a servant or a disciple of Saint John.

About mushrooms
A mushroom or toadstool is the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus, typically produced above ground, on soil, or on its food source.
The standard for the name “mushroom” is the cultivated white button mushroom, Agaricus bisporus; hence the word “mushroom” is most often applied to those fungi (Basidiomycota, Agaricomycetes) that have a stem (stipe), a cap (pileus), and gills (lamellae, sing. lamella) on the underside of the cap. “Mushroom” also describes a variety of other gilled fungi, with or without stems, therefore the term is used to describe the fleshy fruiting bodies of some Ascomycota. These gills produce microscopic spores that help the fungus spread across the ground or its occupant surface.
Forms deviating from the standard morphology usually have more specific names, such as “bolete”, “puffball”, “stinkhorn”, and “morel”, and gilled mushrooms themselves are often called “agarics” in reference to their similarity to Agaricus or their order Agaricales. By extension, the term “mushroom” can also refer to either the entire fungus when in culture, the thallus (called a mycelium) of species forming the fruiting bodies called mushrooms, or the species itself.

The pair came together for a rather epic recording however it came with some intriguing accompaniments as Joe and Post revealed in the opening moments of the popular podcast.

As the pair began giggling almost instantly as the recording began, Post – real name Austin Post – told listeners: ‘Precursor, I haven’t slept.’

Joe chimed in: ‘I know, we haven’t slept, we’re on mushrooms. And, ah, let’s roll,’ as Post added: ‘Yeah, f**k it, we’ll do it live.’

As they then began dissecting Post’s decision to live in Utah, talk turned to aliens, as it’s wont to do.

And Post’s thoughts on ET life?

He thoughtfully mused: ‘Looking from past experience and you know there’s drawings, even in the Mona Lisa, there is a weird thing in the background, but there is a spike, it’s a spike, because it’s getting pretty weird here.’

And he’s seen a UFO, he believed.

‘I was probably 16, in Upstate New York, and it would just stay there [in the sky]…I was looking out the window with my cousin and there’s a light that just stays there and then just f**kin’ goes off. You can’t explain it.’

When pushed on how ‘strong’ his memory was, he replied: ‘Medium.’

Aliens had already been the chat of the podcast, with Joe earlier saying: ‘If you do the right amount of mushrooms, get in a float tank, you can meet aliens.’

We’ll take your word for it, mate.

Keeping in the same vein of chat, the Circles singer recalled taking mushrooms recently and descending into a pretty hardcore recording session.

He said: ‘But then I ate these chocolates the other day, some shroomies chocolates. And me and my producer Lou, we made a Coachella set for about two hours based off Roblox

‘And then I sampled it and we made a whole two-hour set off the deal with just a floor-to-the-floor kickdrum and it was the time of my life.’

The podcast, released on Thursday, was a ruddy wild ride for listeners who shared their thoughts on social media, as Post and Joe covered how big whales are (pretty big) as well as mandatory face mask rules.

On that divisive subject?

‘It’s weird to be forced to wear something,’ Post said, before adding: ‘At the end of the day it all comes down to respect for other people…’

The recording hype is so real fans have dubbed it one of the best podcasts recorded by Joe – who is known for his pretty polarising podcats – so far, as others described it as ‘pub talk’.

One accurately chimed on social media: ‘The Joe rogan and post malone podcast is bang on like a 6am kitchen club chat.’

Another was rightly dumbfounded by the length of the recording: ‘This joe rogan podcast with post malone is one of the best episodes so far tbh, damn posty talked for 4 hours (sic).’

And finally: ‘Can fully agree that joe rogan post malone is the collab i never knew i needed. (sic).’
