But who is woman who became one of the world’s first WAGs? Here’s what you need to know.

Who was Tina Moore?

Tina Dean was a 15-year-old girl from Essex when she met 17-year-old Bobby Moore in 1957. The pair met at Ilford Palais, a former nightclub in east London, when he was playing for West Ham.

In an interview with the Radio Times, Mrs Moore said she “wasn’t overly impressed at first“.

“He wasn’t quite handsome, but he was good-looking, and charm personified,” she said.

She stood him up on their first date but later gave him another chance after seeing him walking down the street and was encouraged by her mother to invite him round for tea, according to her book, Bobby Moore: By The Person Who Knew Him Best.

They married in 1962 and moved in together in a house in Gants Hill, east London, but later moved to a bigger and more impressive house in Chigwell, Essex.

Not long afterwards, Mr Moore was made captain of the England football team. Mrs Moore became pregnant with their first child, Roberta. They later had a second child, Dean.

A tough time ensued when Mr Moore was diagnosed with testicular cancer just two years before he went on to lead England to victory in the 1966 World Cup.

Mrs Moore didn’t want the doctor to tell Mr Moore the diagnosis.

“The very thought of cancer could affect the healing process. That word was never, ever mentioned between us in all the years we were together,” she told RadioTimes.

But Mr Moore recovered and went on to captain England through their only ever World Cup victory, just two years after his diagnosis, with Mrs Moore cheering him on.

Football’s golden couple

Post-World Cup, for some time the couple were thrust into the spotlight and living the high-life as the golden couple of football.

In her book, Mrs Moore recalled how designer shops would lend her clothes and taxi drivers would not charge them for rides.

Photographs of her in an England shirt worn as a dress in a forest became famous.

Mrs Moore has spoken about seeing photos of herself, “a Gants Hill housewife”, on the pages of newspapers and magazines, despite her and the other footballers’ wives just being “ordinary girls”.

Tougher days

Things became more difficult as Bobby’s football career came to an end in 1978. The pair faced difficulties when Bobby lost out on a managerial role and struggled to find other work in the football sphere, such as punditry, leaving him feeling depressed, according to Mrs Moore.

Eventually, the relationship came to an end after Mrs Moore discovered that Mr Moore was having an affair when he was in Australia, and the pair were divorced in 1986. Mr Moore later remarried.

Mrs Moore has spoken about how difficult it was for her to be in a place where she was referred to as “the ex-Mrs Moore” and eventually moved to Miami, Florida for some time.

She eventually began a new relationship with Irish bar owner Steve Duggan.

Bobby Moore died of cancer in 1993 aged 51 and despite the end of their relationship, Mrs Moore has said she was “devastated” to hear of his passing. In more sad news, her son Dean also died in 2011.

Dean’s daughter Poppy had given birth to a son, Oliver, making Ms Moore a great-grandmother.

Watch Tina and Bobby, episode one, on ITV on Wednesday (4 August) at 9pm.
